Swon Named ECAC Player of the Week; Danis Named to Honor Roll
March 11, 2003
Sophomore Chris Swon (Mendham, NJ) has been named the ECAC Player of the Week, after helping to lead Brown to a series sweep of Princeton (2-1 & 3-1) in the First Round of the ECAC Playoffs, while junior Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Swon notched two crucial goals and an assist in the series, as Brown earned its first series win since 1993-1994. In game one, he scored the game-tying goal just 24 seconds after Princeton had grabbed a 1-0 lead. It was his second goal in as many games and just his third of the season. The next night, he helped the Bears grab a 2-0 lead in a span of 24 seconds, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal and adding an assist on the insurance goal, scored 1:18 after Princeton had closed in on Brown's lead. The First Star of game-two, Swon has tallied six of his nine points in the last four games, and seven of his nine points in the last seven games.
Danis, who has earned ECAC Goalie of the Week four times this season, was named to the weekly honor roll for the third time this year. The school record holder in several categories, Danis stopped 66 of 68 shots over the weekend, earning Second Star recognition in both wins.
The Bears have a 14-11-5 overall record, finishing the ECAC regular season with a 10-8-4 mark in league games. With last weekend's sweep of the Tigers, Brown advanced to the Quarterfinals and will face Yale in New Haven this weekend in another best-of-three series. All games begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if necessary, at Yale's Ingalls Rink.
