Brown University senior Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) was named ECACHL Player of the Week (1/31), after helping Brown to a weekend sweep of ECACHL and Ivy League opponents, Yale and Princeton. This marks the second time this season that Meech has been honored as the League's Player of the Week.
Meech continued his successful season over the weekend, leading Brown to a weekend sweep of Yale (5-3) and Princeton (4-2) with four goals in the two games. On Friday against Yale, Meech notched his first career hat-trick, and Brown's first since January 10, 2003, with three of the Bears' five goals, including the game-winner. He tied the game at 1-1 with his first goal, then scored the final two goals of the game to break open a 3-3 tie and put the contest out of reach. Two of his three goals were on the power-play. He finished +1 for the game, and was on the ice for four of the Bears' five goals.
The next night against Princeton, Meech scored Brown's second goal (on the power-play) of the contest, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead late in the first period, less than two minutes after Brown had tied the contest at 1-1. He was on the ice for two of the Bears' four goals. He currently leads the team with 18 points (9g, 9a) and leads the Bears with nine goals, four power-play goals, and two game-winning goals. His 18 points has nearly matched his three-season total of the 21 career points he had entering the 2004-2005 season.
The Bears continue ECACHL action this weekend when they host Vermont and Dartmouth in a pair of ECACHL games at Meehan Auditorium.
