Travel down Interstate 95 to Providence and you'll find one of the best college hockey coaching jobs being turned in by Roger Grillo with Brown. The Bears (8-6-2, 5-1-0 ECAC) are in the conference title chase only two seasons after posting a paltry two league wins.
``Things are going pretty well,'' said Grillo, whose team beat Holy Cross, 4-2, Saturday. ``The biggest thing is our experience and our confidence. We've been doing some nice things at both ends of the rink.
``Last year, the players had a decent season, but we're coming off a dismal season the year before. This year, we're coming off a pretty good year.''
Two years ago, Brown finished dead last with a 4-21-4 overall mark (2-16-4 ECAC). Last season, the Bears improved to sixth place (14-15-2, 10-10-2 ECAC). Brown was knocked out of the ECAC playoffs by eventual champion Harvard, battling the Crimson to double overtime in the second and deciding game of their series at Bright Hockey Center.
``Last year the guys were happy but disappointed to get knocked off by Harvard,'' said Grillo, whose team is 13-1-2 at home since Jan. 12, 2002.
