For the fourth time this season, a Brown University men's ice hockey player was honored with a weekly ECAC award. Sophomore Yann Danis (Lafontaine, QUE) was named the ECAC Player of the Week for the week ending 1/20.
A goalie, it is the second time in his career that he has earned an ECAC weekly honor, the first being a Rookie of the Week selection last season. Danis earns the honor after stopping 53 of 54 shots in two weekend games, leading Brown to two straight victories and a season-high three-game winning streak.
On Friday, Danis picked up his third win over the season with 26 saves in a 4-1 win over #2 St. Cloud State, a team that has one of the most potent offenses in the country. He held the team scoreless for 58:25, narrowly missing his first career shutout and gave Brown it's biggest win in years.
The next night, Danis earned his first career shutout with a 27-save effort in a 2-0 win over Connecticut. The shutout marked the fourth straight shutout for the Bears over UConn, as Brown has now outscored the Huskies by a 26-0 margin.
The Bears resume action tomorrow, Tuesday, January 22, at 7:00 p.m. when they compete at Providence in the 16th Annual Mayor's Cup game. The Bears have won five of the last six meetings between the two schools and will be looking for their third straight Mayor's Cup victory.
