Brown University freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) was honored as the CSTV/Commissioners' Choice National Rookie of the Month for the month of Deccember.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound goaltender backstopped the Bears to a 3-0-1 record in the month and earned MVP honors at the UConn Hockey Classic as Brown captured its first holiday tournament title in 20 years. The 19-year old D'Alba, who spent three seasons with the Chicago Steel of the USHL, sported a 1.47 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in December.
He blocked 34 shots in a 3-3 tie with RPI on Dec. 3 and followed that up with his first career shutout and a 36-save performance in a 2-0 victory over Union. Against the Dutchmen, D'Alba also picked up his first career point, assisting on the game-winning goal. Following the weekend, D'Alba earned ECACHL Goalie and Rookie of the Week honors, the first time that's happened in nearly five years.
D'Alba, who ranks sixth in the nation in GAA (1.86( and second in save percentage (.941), was called upon to make 39 saves in wins over Merrimack and Holy Cross at the UConn Classic to earn ECACHL Rookie of the Week honors.
Since D'Alba established himself as Brown's number-one goalie, the Bears had gone on a seven-game unbeaten run (6-0-1) that started with his 44-save effort in a 2-1 victory over then No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth, before dropping both games at home this past weekend.
The Bears will look to snap their two-game skid this Wednesday when they host American International in a 7:00 p.m. non-league game.
