Nov. 30, 2002
PROVIDENCE, RI - The men's ice hockey team (4-4-1, 4-4-1) dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Union (6-5-3, 3-2-1) in an ECAC men's ice hockey contest on Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
The Skating Dutchmen wasted little time in getting on the board as they took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Marc Neron just 57 seconds into the contest. Nathan Gillies extended Union's lead to 2-0 with a short-handed goal at 17:59 of the opening period, as the Dutchmen headed into the locker room with a two-goal cushion.
Neron scored his second of the night at 2:41 of the second period, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead and Gillies notched his second short-handed tally at 15:27 for Union's fourth, and final, goal of the game.
The Bears got on the board less than two minutes later with a short-handed tally of their own as junior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) rushed down the ice and sent a centering pass to classmate Adam Saunders (Moose Jaw, SASK) on his right. Saunders one-timed the puck into the net for Brown's only goal.
For the game Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) finished with 17 saves, while Tim Roth stopped 26 shots for Union.
Brown continues action next weekend as the Bears close out the first half of the season at Yale on Friday and Princeton on Saturday.
