Providence, RI - UConn's second line of Marcello Ranallo, Jason Krispel, and Michael Coppola combined for nine points to lead the Huskies (4-9-0) to a 4-1 non-league win over the Brown men's ice hockey team (0-6-2) on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. The victory gives UConn its first-ever win over Brown, which was 5-0-1 all-time against the Huskies entering the game.

The Huskies went up, 1-0, just 6:18 into the game when Bobby Reiners fired a shot from the top of the right face-off circle that beat freshman Mike Clemente (Great Falls, VA), who was making his first career start in net, five-hole.

UConn gained a 3-0 advantage with a pair of goals scored by the second line of Ranallo, Krispel, and Coppola, who combined for the Huskies final three goals. Ranallo scored the first one at 16:59 of the first, redirecting a centering feed from Krispel past Clemente. Just 30 seconds prior to the goal, the Bears nearly tied the game, but senior Matt Vokes' (Auburn, MA) shot from the bottom of the right face-off circle, which had Beau Erickson beat glove-side, clanged off the cross-bar.

Krispel then gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead converting a two-on-one rush with Ranallo at 3:44 of the second period. Coppola earned assists on both goals.

The Bears nearly got on the board just over a minute later, but junior Aaron Volpatti's (Revelstoke, BC) redirection of a shot from sophomore Jeremy Russell (St. Albert, ALB) hit the post, as Brown was denied by the metal again.

Volpatti broke Erickson's bid for the shutout at 11:04 of the third, scoring his second goal in as many games. Freshman Mike Griffin (Hingham, MA) controlled the puck behind the net and pushed it up to Volpatti, who one-timed it past Erickson. Junior Jordan Pietrus (Vermilion, ALB) also earned an assist on the goal, while Griffin's assist was his first collegiate point.

Brown pulled Clemente, who finished with 24 saves, with 1:15 remaining, and Coppola added an empty-netter with 15 seconds left in the game, off a feed from Ranallo.

In the midst of a six-game homestand, Brown returns to ECAC Hockey action Friday night when it hosts Union at 7:00 p.m.
