Four-Goal Second Period Lifts Cornell Past Brown Men's Icers, 5-0

ITHACA, NY - The Big Red exploded for four goals in the second period as Cornell (6-1-0, 5-1-0) skated past Brown (4-3-0, 4-3-0), 5-0, in an ECAC and Ivy League men's ice hockey contest on Saturday evening at Lynah Rink.

After a period of scoreless action, the Big Red took a 1-0 lead just 1:31 into the second period on a power-play goal by senior Stephen Baby. Cornell increased its lead to 2-0 at 12:54 of the second stanza on a goal by senior Mark McRae, who fired a slap shot from the left point past junior Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE).

McRae added his second of the night on a power-play goal just two minutes later as the Big Red grabbed a 3-0 lead at 14:57 of the second. Cornell pulled further away as Ryan Vesce scored the fourth goal of the night for the Big Red with just three seconds remaining in the second period.

The Big Red added a 4x3 power-play goal with just 49.5 seconds remaining for the 5-0 final.

For the game, Danis finished with 21 saves for the Bears. Brown returns home next weekend for a pair of ECAC contests against RPI (Friday) and Union (Saturday) at Meehan Auditorium. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
