Special Teams The Difference As Brown Men's Ice Hockey Defeats St. Lawrence, 5-1

Nov. 16, 2002

CANTON, NY - The Bears (4-1-0, 4-1-0) went 4-9 on the power-play while juniors Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) and Pascal Denis (Magog, QUE) each scored two goals en route to a 5-1 win over St. Lawrence (2-8-1, 1-4-0) in an ECAC men's ice hockey contest on Saturday evening at Appleton Arena.

As they have for their first four games, the Bears got on the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead over St. Lawrence at 7:51 of the first period. On their first power-play opportunity of the night, seniors Chris Legg (London, ONT) and Tye Korbl (Barnstable, MA) executed a perfect give-and-go to move the puck down the ice. Denis took a centering pass from Legg and one-timed the puck past St. Lawrence's Mike McKenna for his third goal of the year.

Brown opened the second period on the power-play and senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) stretched his point-scoring streak to five games with his first goal of the season just 43 seconds into the period, giving Brown a 2-0 lead. Sophomore leading scorer Les Haggett (Norwood, NY), who has also tallied at least one point in all five games, and Robinson combined to get Kirley the puck, and the senior Assistant Captain one-timed it into the net from the slot.

Less than nine minutes later, Kirley assisted a Robinson power-play goal at 9:04 of the second as Brown took a 3-0 lead and Robinson scored his first of the season. Robinson added his second power-play goal of the night with 3:08 remaining in the second period. Junior Vince Macri (Durham, NH), who scored Brown's only goal last night against Clarkson, and Haggett earned the assists on the goal.

Robinson added his fourth point of the game with an assist on Denis' second goal of the night at 12:56 of the third, giving Brown a 5-0 lead.

However, the Saints ruined Brown's hopes of their third shutout when Josh Anderson solved Danis at 13:26, getting St. Lawrence on the board.

For the game, Danis finished with 26 saves as the Bears rebounded from last night's loss at Clarkson and remain in first place in the ECAC with eight points. The Bears continue action next weekend on the road as they play at Colgate and at Cornell in a pair of ECAC contests.
