POTSDAM, NY - Clarkson (2-3-1, 2-1-1) scored five straight goals, including a two-goal second period, to defeat the Brown men's ice hockey team (3-1-0, 3-1-0) by a 5-1 score in an ECAC men's ice hockey contest on Friday evening at Cheel Arena.
After over half a period of scoreless action, the Bears took a 1-0 lead on their first power-play opportunity of the night. The Bears won the face-off in Clarkson's end and junior Vince Macri (Durham, NH) scored his second power-play goal of the season with a wrist-shot from the right face-off circle just six seconds into the power-play. Senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) and sophomore Les Haggett (Norwood, NY), who was playing in front of his hometown, each added their fifth assists of the year on the goal, which came at 12:20 of the opening stanza.
However, with Brown on their second power-play chance of the evening, Clarkson knotted the contest with a short-handed goal at 18:17 of the first as the Bears allowed their first short-handed goal of the year. Clarkson took a 2-1 lead at 12:02 of the second period on a goal by Tristan Lush, as Brown trailed for the first time this season.
The Golden Knights increased their lead to 3-1 on a goal by Rob McFeeters with just 59 seconds remaining in the second period as they became the first team this season to score more than two goals on the Brown defense. Clarkson increased its lead to 4-1 with just 3:36 remaining in the game and added a power-play goal with 46 seconds left in the game for the 5-1 final.
