Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT) scored his first goal of the season midway through the second period and added an assist to lead Brown (2-2-0, 2-2-0) to a 3-1 victory over #16 St. Lawrence (7-3-0, 3-1-0), which suffered its first league loss of the season, in an ECACHL game on Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown took an early 1-0 lead just 1:43 into the game, when junior Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) knocked a loose puck into the back of the net with Saints' goalie Justin Pesony out of position. Sophomore Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) controlled the puck off the face-off and crossed it to Hurley at the left point. Hurley fired a shot that bounced off the boards, caught the back of Pesony's leg, and trickled into the goalmouth. Ihnacak and Max Taylor of St. Lawrence both dove at the puck, but it went into the net and the red light went on before the net was knocked off the anchors, and ruled a goal.

The Saints tied the game 1:47 into the second period with a power-play goal, but Hurley regained the one-goal lead for Brown at 11:16 of the period, scoring on a five-on-three advantage for the Bears. Sophomore David Robertson (Saunderstown, RI) sent the puck to freshman Matt Vokes (Auburn, MA) on the near side and Vokes one-timed it back up to Hurley in the slot. Hurley fired the puck into the back of the net for his first goal of the year and a 2-1 Brown lead.

Hurley's goal would stand as the game-winner, but sophomore Seth Seidman (Milton, MA) added his first career goal at 2:53 of the third for the 3-1 final. Seidman and senior Joe Bauer (Apple Valley, MN) skate in on a two-on-one rush and after Bauer's initial shot was saved, Seidman collected the loose puck and beat Pesony stick-side.

Sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) stood strong all night in net, finishing with 34 saves for Brown, including all 12 shots he faced in the first period, and all 16 he faced in the final 20:00. The Bears will look to continue their winning streak this weekend when they play in their first road games of the season. Brown travels to Dartmouth to face the Big Green on Friday night at 7:00. After a day off, Brown will face Harvard, on Sunday, November 20, in a 3:00 p.m. game.
