Special Teams the Difference in Bears' 5-0 Loss to Colgate

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (0-1-0, 0-1-0) dropped is 2005-2006 season-opener, falling 5-0 to the Colgate Raiders (4-1-1, 1-0-0) on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears dominated the pace of the play early in the game, generating several scoring opportunities, however, Colgate's Mark Dekanich was able to keep Brown from scoring, despite the Bears earning two power-play opportunities in the first eight minutes of play.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead at 11:35 when Jon Smyth slipped the puck past sophomore Adam D'Alba off a rebound from Tyler Burton.
The second period was when the momentum shifted Colgate's way, as the Raiders took a 2-0 lead 2:23 into the period. Colgate scored twice in a span of 19 seconds, once on a 5-on-3 power-play at 7:15 and then on the remaining 5-on-4 power play to push their lead to 4-0 midway through the second.
The Bears dominated the third period, outshooting Colgate 13-4, but the Raiders added their fifth goal at 14:01 of the final stanza, for the 5-0 final.
Brown finished 0-10 on the man-advantage, while Colgate was 4-9 for the game, including a perfect 3-3 mark in the second period.
D'Alba finished with 15 saves in net for the Bears. Brown will look to rebound tomorrow night when it welcomes #4 Cornell to Meehan for a 7:00 p.m. game.
