Brown Defeats Western Ontario, 4-1, In An Exhibition Game

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team scored twice in the first period and twice in the third en route to a 4-1 victory over visiting Western Ontario in an exhibition contest Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

After nearly 15 minutes of scoreless action, Brown got on the board when sophomore Les Haggett and junior Vince Macri connected with Pascal Denis, giving Brown a 1-0 lead 13:36 into the first period.

Junior Scott Ford increased Brown's lead to 2-0 when he fired the puck into the net as time in the first period expired. Seniors Jason Wilson and Tye Korbl each earned assists on the play.

Junior Yann Danis stopped all 11 shots he faced in 32:33 minutes of action, before giving way to sophomore Scott Rowan. The Mustangs tallied a power play goal with just 12 seconds remaining in the second period to come within one, but Rowan and the rest of the Bears shut Western Ontario down for the final 20 minutes.

Senior Keith Kirley connected with junior Brent Robinson, who scored on the power play at 8:05 of the third, sending the puck home from between the two face-off circles. Haggett scored a short-handed goal for the Bears with just 3:33 remaining, accounting for the fourth goal. Junior Nick Ringstad earned an assist on the play.

Rowan stopped 12 shots in the third for a total of 14 saves.

The Bears open the 2002-2003 season on Saturday, November 2, when they host Harvard at 7:00 p.m. in the 138th meeting between the two schools.
