Bears Split Scrimmages with Harvard

PROVIDENCE, RI - After three official days on the ice, the Brown men's ice hockey team hosted Harvard in a two-part scrimmage. Both teams were divided into two different groups. One group from each team faced off against each other in two 15-minute periods, following by two 15-minute periods for the second group from each team. Harvard defeated the Bears 3-1 in the first scrimmage, but the Bears came back to earn a 2-1 win in the second scrimmage.
In Game #1, the Crimson scored three goals, including two in the second period, before Brown was able to get on the board. Senior Paul Crosty (Edmonton, ALB) scored on the power-play off an assist from Sean Muncy (Chesterfield, MO). Sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) started in net and made eight saves, allowing three goals, in 20:52. Freshman Mark Sibbald (Ridgeway, ONT) played the remaining 9:08 and made three saves, while not allowing a goal.
The Game #1 scrimmage featured freshmen Sibbald, Mike Stuart (Rome, NY), Muncy, Eric Slais (Fenton, MO), Matt Palmer (Anchorage, AK), and Ryan Garbutt (Winnipeg, MAN), sophomores Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI), Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT), Chris Poli (Medfield, MA), Seth Seidman (Milton, MA), and D'Alba, juniors Dylan Row (Winnipeg, MAN), Steve Sigaty (Edmonton, ALB), and Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB), and seniors Jarrett Robertson (Kingston, ONT), Crosty, and Pete LeCain (Bridgewater, NS).
In game #2, Brown scored two straight goals to take a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Sophomore Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) gave Brown a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 11:18 mark. His goal was assisted by freshman Matt Vokes (Auburn, MA) and senior Adam Tichauer (Toronto, ON). Just 2:19 into the second period, McNary assisted a goal from Vokes as the Bears took a 2-0 lead. Harvard scored its only goal of the second game just three minutes later, at 5:18, on a 5x3 power-play, and just 37 seconds after Sibbald had come in to relieve senior Kevin Kliman (Toronto, ONT). Kliman finished with six saves in 19:41, while Sibbald made four saves in the remaining 10:19.
The Game #2 scrimmage featured five Bears who had also played in Game #1, Sibbald, Stuart, Row, Slais, and Palmer. In addition, Vokes, sophomores David Robertson (Saunderstown, RI), Paul Baier (North Kingstown, RI), McNary, and Todd Johnson (Riverside, CT), juniors Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) and Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE), and seniors Tichauer, Joe Bauer (Apple Valley, MN), Cory Caouette (Devon, ALB), Rugo Santini (Winchester, MA), and Kliman.
The 2005-2006 men's ice hockey season and its quest for the 2006 ECACHL Championship, kicks off on Friday, November 4, when the Bears host Colgate in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Meehan Auditorium.
