Men's Icers Fall To Dartmouth, 4-2, In Third Place Game of the 2003 ECAC Tournament
March 22, 2003
ALBANY, NY - The Dartmouth Big Green (20-13-1, 13-9-0) scored two goals in a span of 22 seconds en route to a 4-2 win over Brown (16-14-5, 10-8-4) in the third-place game of the 2003 ECAC Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon at Albany's Pepsi Arena.
After a period of scoreless action, Brown took a 1-0 lead just 3:11 into the second period on a goal by Pascal Denis (Magog, QUE). The junior was camped out to the right of Dartmouth's Dan Yacey, slipping the puck behind the sophomore goalie off a Shane Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) slap shot from the center of the blueline.
However, nine minutes later, the Big Green knotted the contest at 1-1 with a goal at 12:29, just seconds after a Dartmouth power-play had ended. Just 22 seconds later, the Big Green took a 2-1 lead, increasing their lead at 3:24 of the third period.
Brown cut into Dartmouth's lead at 7:50 of the final period off a rush by the Bears' fourth line. Senior Chris Legg (London, ONT) fed Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) in the slot and the sophomore fired it past Yacey, bringing Bruno to within one.
The Bears pulled junior goalie Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) with 49 seconds remaining for the extra skater and the Big Green added an empty-netter with 43 seconds left to play.
For the game, Danis stopped 40 shots in net, while Yacey made 26 saves for the Big Green. Brown finishes its season with a 16-14-5 overall record and returns three of the top five and six of the top ten scorers for next season, along with Danis and four of Brown's regular bluliners.
