PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (14-9-5, 12-7-2) dropped its fourth straight game, falling to Dartmouth (12-7-9, 10-4-7), 3-0, in an ECAC and Ivy Leauge contest, Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium. With the loss, the Bears fall to fourth in the ECAC, just one point ahead of fifth-place RPI. In addition, the Bears are now just one point ahead of Dartmouth, who finishes out its Ivy League schedule tomorrow at Harvard, in the race for an Ivy Championship.
The Big Green scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal when Nathan Szymanski fired a shot from the right point that was headed wide. However, the puck deflected off a stick and into the back of the net for the 1-0 Dartmouth lead at 9:48 of the first period.
Brown had a chance to tie it with less than two minutes remaining in the first period, but the Bears failed to capitalize on an open Dartmouth net. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Dartmouth and thanks to many great saves by senior Hobey Baker Candidate Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE), including 16 in the second period, to keep Brown in the game, the Bears couldn't bury the puck at the other end of the ice.
Brown pulled Danis with 1:15 remaining in the game and the Big Green added its first of two empty-net goals just nine seconds later. The Bears pulled Danis for a second time, but Dartmouth finished the scoring with seven seconds remaining for the final 3-0.
Danis made a season-high 24 saves for the Bears, who continue action tomorrow night when it hosts Vermont in a crucial ECAC contest at 7:00 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium.
