After going 1-38 on the power-play in their last six games, including not scoring on the man advantage in their past five games, Brown took a 1-0 lead just 3:15 into the game on a power-play goal by senior Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC). Freshman Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT) sent the puck from the blueline to senior Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) in the corner. Haggett, connected with Meech at the right face-off circle and he lifted the puck past Dan Yacey for his 11th goal of the year. With the assist, Haggett became the first Brown player to score his 100th career point since Ryan Mulhern '96 in 1996.

With less than three minutes to go in the first period, freshman Jeff Prough's (Farmington Hills, MI) breakaway attempt was saved by Yacey. The Big Green collected the puck deep in their own zone and skate in on the Brown defense, before Nick Johnson lifted the puck past freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) ay 17:57 of the first for a 2-1 Dartmouth lead.

The Big Green scored back-to-back goals just 3:29 apart to take a 4-1 lead before the midway point of the second period.

Just 37 seconds after the second power-play chance, Dartmouth took a 5-2 lead and then scored its sixth goal of the game, just 1:34 later, at 6:08 of the period.
