#13 Brown Drops Second Straight Game, Falling 4-0 at St. Lawrence

Feb. 20, 2004

CANTON, NY - The Brown men's ice hockey team (14-6-5, 12-4-2) dropped its second straight game, falling to St. Lawrence (10-17-5, 6-10-2), 4-0, in an ECAC contest, Friday evening at Appleton Arena. With the loss, Brown still remains in first place in the ECAC, However, Colgate's victory over Union puts them in a tie with Brown, while Cornell's victory over RPI, has moved the Big Red just one point behind the Bears.

The two teams traded penalties to open the game, and St. Lawrence was the first to capitalize on the power-play. Kyle Rank blasted a shot from the center of the blue-line, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead at 5:51 of the first period.

Brown won the opening face-off, but a miscommunication by the Bears' defense led to a 2-0 St. Lawrence lead. With senior Hobey Baker candidate Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE) behind the net, the puck bounced off the rear boards and in front of the net, where Rich Peverley was there to knock the puck into the empty net just 15 seconds into the second period.

The Bears had perhaps their best chance of the period when senior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) went in all along on Saints' netminder Mike McKenna, but McKenna made the stop, keeping Brown off the board.

Brown started the third period on the penalty-kill and just 1:09 into that St. Lawrence power-play, senior Vince Macri (Durham, NH) took his third penalty of the night to give the Saints a 5x3 advantage for 51 seconds. St. Lawrence capitalized, beating Danis low and on his glove-side with eight seconds remaining on the two-man advantage for a 3-0 lead at 1:53 of the third.

With 25 seconds remaining in the rest of the power-play, St. Lawrence had a goal called off, however, at 3:45 of the period, the Saints increased their lead to 4-0 on a Jeremy Cormier goal.

Danis made 36 saves for the Bears, including 14 in the both the first and second periods. Brown continues action tomorrow night when it faces Clarkson in a 7:00 p.m. game.
