Box Score

CANTON, NY - St. Lawrence (17-12-2, 11-7-1) tallied twice on the power-play during the first 40:00, and then added two even-strength goals in the final period to earn a 4-1 win over the Brown men's ice hockey team (3-17-6, 2-13-4) in an ECAC Hockey League game on Friday evening at Appleton Arena.

The Saints wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead against the Bears, who were still looking to find their legs early in the game after the morning skate was cancelled due to a power failure at St. Lawrence's rink. With Brown on the penalty-kill just 2:07 into the game, John Zeiler gave the Saints the early lead with a power-play goal at 2:56. Mike Zbriger controlled the puck to the right of sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) and with D'Alba holding the right post, Zbriger centered the puck for Zeiler, who one-timed it past D'Alba for the early lead.

St. Lawrence increased its lead to 2-0 at 9:22 of the second, scoring its second power-play goal in three chances. After the Bears had successfully cleared the zone, the face-off was brought back into the Brown end because of a hand-pass. The Saints won that draw, and Jared Ross lit the lamp when he fired a slap shot from the center of the blue-line that beat D'Alba cleanly.

Brown had its best chance of the period with just over 2:00 remaining when sophomore Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) had St. Lawrence's Justin Pesony beat on a redirection of a shot from senior Adam Tichauer's (Toronto, ONT), but his deflection sailed over the net.

St. Lawrence increased its lead to 3-0 at 11:36 of the third when Chase Trull scored off a pass from T.J. Trevelyan. Less than three minutes later, at 13:43, Brock McBride beat D'Alba on a breakaway, giving the Saints a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore leading scorer Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) spoiled Pesony's shutout bid with exactly 5:00 left in the game when he scored his 12th of the year off a feed from freshman Eric Slais (Fenton, MO) with the Bears on the power-play.

D'Alba finished with 37 saves, while Pesony made 25 stops for St. Lawrence. The Bears play their final regular-season road game of the year tomorrow night when they face Clarkson at 7:00 p.m.
