Robinson and Danis Lead Brown to 2-0 Victory Over St. Lawrence

Feb. 15, 2002

CANTON, NY - Sophomore Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) scored the winning goal and added an assist, while classmate Yann Danis (Lafontaine, QUE) made 23 saves, in leading Brown (11-11-2, 7-8-2) to a 2-0 win over St. Lawrence in an ECAC men's ice hockey contest on Friday evening.

The shutout was Danis' second of the season, and his first over an ECAC opponent, as the Bears even their record at .500 for the first time since November.

After a scoreless first period, the Bears took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 8:52 of the second stanza. Junior Keith Kirley's (Leverett, MA) shot was saved by Saint Lawrence's Kevin Ackley, but the rebound bounced out Robinson, who beat Ackley top-shelf with his third goal in as many games. Junior Tye Korbl (Goffstown, NH) also earned an assist on the goal.

Just three minutes later, freshman Chris Swon (Mendham, NJ) tapped the puck into the net, but the ref waved the goal, whistling Swon with a high-sticking call.

The Bears got that second goal less than one minute after that when Kirley lit the lamp coming in through the slot. Sophomore Scott Ford (Fort St. John, BC) and Robinson each earned assists on the goal, which came at 12:46 of the second period.

The Saints pulled Ackley with 1:57 remaining, but could not get the extra-man goal, while the Bears defeated St. Lawrence in a crucial ECAC contest, as the two programs entered the game in a tie for 8th place.

For the game, Danis finished with 23 saves, as Brown earned a victory in Appleton for the first time since February of 1999. The Bears continue action tomorrow, Saturday, February 16, when they face Clarkson in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
