PROVIDENCE, RI- The Brown men's ice hockey team (14-6-5, 12-4-2) lost just its second home game of the season, falling to visiting RPI (17-11-2, 11-6-1), 4-0, in an ECAC contest Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
After a scoreless first period, during which Brown outshot the Engineers 12-4, RPI took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period on a power-play goal. Scott Basiuk fired a shot from the blueline that beat Brown senior goalie Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE). The goal, which would prove to be the game-winner, was just the 10th power-play goal allowed by the Bears all season.
Less than a minute into the third period, Kirk MacDonald gave RPI a 2-0 lead with his 13th goal of the season just 41 seconds into the frame. The Engineers put the game away with a short-handed goal less than eight minutes later, and added their fourth just 1:03 after that for the 4-0 final.
Danis made 30 saves in net, finishing the weekend with 72 saves in two games, including 17 in the third period.
The Bears, who remain in first place in the ECAC with 26 points, two points ahead of second-place Colgate and three ahead of third-place RPI and Cornell, will look to rebound next weekend when it travels to St. Lawrence and Clarkson for a pair of key ECAC contests.
