TROY, NY - Kirk MacDonald scored the game-winning goal with 8.3 seconds left in regulation, lifting RPI (13-17-2, 5-12-1) to a 3-2 win over the Brown men's ice hockey team (13-8-3, 8-7-2) in an ECACHL contest on Saturday evening at Houston Fieldhouse, also the 28th Annual Big Red Freakout!. The Bears entered the night with an 0-7 record in the Freakout!, and similar to the loss in the 2003 version, the Engineers earned the win with less than a minute left to play.

The Engineers came out of the gates flying, peppering freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) with two shots less than one minute into the game. However, a five-on-three opportunity for Brown before the five-minute mark of the period gave the Bears a 5-3 advantage in shots.

At the midway point of the period, RPI again put the pressure on D'Alba firing three shots in a row, with D'Alba on the ground. The freshman goalie stopped all of them and then a fourth shot his the post to keep the Engineers off the board.

RPI finally broke through at 14:55 of the first period when Oren Eizenman collected a loose puck in the slot and fired it into an open net, just two seconds after an Engineer power-play had ended.

However, sophomore Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) knotted the game at 1-1, three minutes later, at 17:56. Freshman Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) dug the puck out of the corner and connected with Dersch at the right face-off circle. Dersh one-timed it over Andrew Martin's right shoulder and into the back of the net, for his sixth goal of the year.

Dersch and McNary combined with sophomore Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) to give Brown a 2-1 lead just 1:28 into the second period. Dersch fired a shot on Martin and the rebound squirted out to Roux, who was on the endline to the left of the net. Roux beat Martin on the far side, scroring his sixth goal of the season.

RPI opened the third period on the power-play and just 36 seconds into the frame, Nick Economakos tied the game at 2-2 with 1:11 remaining on the power-play, knocking in the rebound of a shot from Kevin Croxton. The Bears dominated the play of third period, outshooting RPI 14-7, but with 8.3 seconds left, Kirk MacDonald fired a shot from the right face-off circle that beat D'Alba to his stick-side.

The Bears pulled D'Alba after the goal, but could not get the extra-man tally.

D'Alba finished with 17 saves for the Bears, who continue action next weekend when they return to Meehan Auditorium for two crucial league games with St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
