Box Score

Providence, RI - The ninth-ranked Tigers scored four unanswered goals to open the game as Princeton (15-6-0, 9-5-0) picked up a 5-1 victory over the Brown men's ice hockey team (2-15-4, 2-10-3) on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.

The Tigers dominated the first 20 minutes, outshooting Brown, 18-4, and grabbing a 2-0 lead, thanks in some part to five power-play chances and two separate five-on-three opportunities; one for 1:26 and the other for 1:35.

Mike Kramer gave Princeton a 1-0 lead just 4:11 into the game when he fired a shot from the bottom of the left face-off circle that beat freshman Mike Clemente (Great Falls, VA) glove-side. Jody Pederson increased the Tigers lead to 2-0, converting the first two-man advantage, before Brown had even taken a shot on net.

Sophomore Jeremy Russell (St. Albert, ALB) was strong during the five-on-three, blocking three Princeton shots prior to the goal. For the period, he had a total of five blocked shots.

Freshman Bobby Farnham (North Andover, MA) finally took Brown's first shot of the period from outside the zone at 11:59 of the period.

The second period was more even, as the Tigers held just a 16-12 advantage in shots on goal, but still scored twice to increase their lead to 4-0 after two periods. Tyler Beachell gave Princeton a 3-0 lead just 2:21 into the period, converting on another power-play when he knocked in the rebound of a shot by Matt Arhontas.

Mark Magnowski then gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead at 11:57, scoring just nine seconds after a Brown power-play had expired. With the puck tied up in the corner, Arhontas came up with it and dished it to Magnowski, who skated over to the bottom of the right circle and beat Clemente glove-side high.

Brown's best chance of the period came with 13.6 seconds remaining when sophomore Harry Zolnierczyk (Toronto, ONT) had a short-handed break-away, but his shot clanged off the post, as the Bears were kept off the scoreboard.

The Bears made it a 4-1 game 2:30 into the final period when Farnham beat Zane Kalemba on a one-timer from the slot off a feed from behind the net by classmate Jack Maclellan (Calgary, ALB). Senior Matt Palmer (Anchorage, AK) also earned an assist on the goal.

Magnowski added his second of the game at 12:46 for the 5-1 final.

Clemente finished with 42 saves, one shy of his career high. The Bears return to action next weekend with one home and one away game, as they host Dartmouth in a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday night and then travel to Merrimack for a 7:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
