PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (8-6-2) scored three straight goals to open the game and earn a 5-2 victory over American International (1-12-1) in a non-league game on Wednesday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

After a sluggish start, the Bears took a 1-0 lead on sophomore Sean Dersch's (Edmonton, ALB) fifth goal of the season. Freshman Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) left the puck for Dersch on the edge of the crease, and he knocked it at 13:21 of the first period.

Less than one minute later, at 14:15, junior Joe Bauer (Apple Valley, MN) knocked in his first goal of the season for a 2-0 Brown lead. Freshman Seth Seidman (Milton, MA) picked up his first career point with an assist on the goal. Brown was all over AIC for the first 20:00, outshooting the Yellow Jackets, 27-7.

Sophomore leading scorer Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) increased the Bears' lead to 3-0 just 3:05 into the second stanza, redirecting a feed from senior Les Haggett (Norwood, NY). Freshman Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) also assisted on the goal.

AIC made things interesting with back-to-back goals just 2:51 apart to come to within one, 3-2.

However, freshman David Robertson (Saunderstown, RI) regained the two-goal cushion for Brown at 8:49 of the second period with a power-play goal. McNary fed the puck to Robertson at the left point and he fired a slap shot that snuck in over Frank Novello's right shoulder.

Senior Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) scored the final goal of the contest with 2:20 left in the game when his shot from the left face-off circle was saved by Novello, but the puck bounced back into the net. Juniors Cory Caouette (Spruce Grove, ALB) and Pete LeCain (Bridgewater, NS) each assisted on the goal.

In net for Brown, Rowan made 29 saves, while Novello stopped 56 shots for American International. The Bears continue the end of the non-league schedule next Tuesday when they host UMass-Lowell at 7:00 p.m.
