Bears Snap 11-Game Skid with 4-1 Victory over UConn
Jan. 10, 2006
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (3-10-3) scored four straight goals en route to a 4-1 victory over visiting UConn (7-11-3) in the Bears' final non-league game of the season, Tuesday evening at Meehan Auditorium. The win, Brown's first since November 12th, was the Bears' second straight game without a loss (1-0-1) and also snapped Brown's 11-game skid (0-8-3).
Junior Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) was whistled for interference 1:08 into the game and the Huskies capitalized on the power-play, just 36 seconds into the man-advantage. Chris Mihro's shot from the top of the left face-off circle was saved by sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL), but the rebound went out to his right and Cole Koidahl was there to knock the puck in and give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
However, from there on, it was all Brown, as the Bears scored two power-play goals of their own before the end of the first period.
Sophomore Chris Poli (Medfield, MA) started the come-back with his second goal of the year at 10:43. Sophomore leading scorer Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) controlled the puck along the right boards and passed the puck to sophomore Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB), who was behind the net. McNary settled the puck and fed Poli in the slot, who fired the shot past Scott Tomes.
Junior Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) added another power-play tally for Brown with just 39 seconds left before the first intermission, one-timing the puck into the back of the net from the left face-off circle off a feed from sophomore Paul Baier (North Kingstown, RI).
Senior Jarrett Robertson (Kingston, ONT), who was back in the line-up after missing nine games, added some insurance for the Bears when he scored his third goal of the year off a pass from classmate Joe Bauer (Apple Valley, MN) just 4:06 into the second period.
UConn pulled Tomes with just under 2:00 remaining in the game and McNary added an empty-netter to seal the win with 1:21 left, as Brown improved to 5-0-1 alltime against the Huskies.
In net for Brown, D'Alba recorded 28 saves. The Bears return to ECAC Hockey League action this Saturday, January 14, when they travel to New Haven, CT to face Yale at 2:00 p.m.
