PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (7-5-2, 4-4-2) saw its seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) snapped by #9 Cornell (9-3-2, 5-1-1) in an ECACHL contest on Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Big Red.
The Bears wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead, as junior Cory Caouette (Spruce Grove, ALB) scored his second of the season just 1:22 into the game. Freshman Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) collected a loose puck in the Cornell zone and connected with Caouette in the slot, picking up his ninth point of the year with the assist.
However, it was all Cornell for the remainder of the period, as the Big Red scored back-to-back goals during a span of 7:32 to take a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Raymond Sawada scored Cornell's first of the game, while Matt Moulson scored its second goal with just one second left on a power-play.
The Big Red scored the eventual game-winner at 5:49 of the second period, and added an insurance goal less than seven minutes later, scoring their second power-play goal of the game.
Sophomore Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) brought the Bears to within striking distance with a power-play goal at 17:26 of the second. Freshman Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) and sophomore Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) each assisted on the goal, but Brown could get no closer.
In net for Brown, freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) stopped 23 shots in net, while David McKee made 12 saves for Cornell. The Bears will look to rebound tomorrow evening when they host Colgate, which defeated Harvard tonight, 3-1, tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.
