Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - Will Engasser scored just 51 seconds into overtime after Robert Page had tied the game with 1:08 remaining in regulation as the Yale Bulldogs (7-4-3, 4-2-3) overcame a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 win over the Brown men's ice hockey team (1-9-4, 1-4-3) on Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead at 3:49 of the first when Sean Backman knocked in the rebound of a Robert Page shot with junior Mark Sibbald (Ridgeway, ONT) at the top of the crease after making the initial save as Backman had a partially open net at which to shoot.

However, the Bears tied the game 4:07 later when sophomore Devin Timberlake (Port Alberni, BC) tucked the puck behind Billy Blase after the Bulldog goalie made a stop on freshman David Brownschidle (Lawrenceville, NJ).

The first period was relatively even with Yale holding a slight, 11-10, advantage in shots, despite having to kill off three penalties.

Junior Ryan Garbutt (Winnipeg, MAN) gave Brown a 2-1 lead 2:34 into the second period when he fired the puck past Blase from the top of the left face-off circle. Freshman Harry Zolnierczyk (Toronto, ONT) earned his first career point with an assist on the goal after Blase made a save on his partial breakaway bid.

The Bears were 68 seconds away from earning their first win since November 9th, but Yale tied the game at 18:52 of the third when the Bulldogs fired three consecutive shots at Sibbald before Robert Page found the back of the net on a rebound to send the game into overtime.

Just 51 seconds into the overtime, Will Engasser lifted Yale to the victory, tucking the puck behind Sibbald's left leg from the right edge of the crease.

Sibbald finished with 31 saves, while Blase made 21 stops for the Bulldogs. Now winless in their last nine games (0-7-2), the Bears continue their four-game homestand, the longest stretch of home games this season, next weekend when they host Quinnipiac and Princeton in a pair of critical ECAC Hockey contests Friday and Saturday, January 11th and 12th. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
