PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) stopped 45 shots, including 21 in the third and overtime periods combined as the Brown men's ice hockey team tied UMass-Lowell, 3-3, on Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
After nearly nine minutes of scoreless action, the Riverhawks took a 1-0 lead at 8:35 of the first period, just eight seconds after a UMass-Lowell power-play had ended.
However, senior Tye Korbl (Barnstable, MA) scored his third goal of the season at 14:26 of the same period to send the two teams into the first intermission knotted at 1-1. Juniors Vince Macri (Durham, NH) and Adam Saunders (Moose Jaw, SASK) each earned assists on the goal, as Brown scored just three seconds after a Bruno power-play had ended.
Junior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) gave the Bears a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 6:02 of the second period. Senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) and sophomore Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) each assisted on the goal.
However, the Riverhawks responded just 25 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2 and took a 3-2 lead at 13:02 of the second period.
Senior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) assisted on a power-play goal by junior Scott Ford (Fort St. John, BC) just 1:49 into the final period, as he scored his second goal in as many games and the final goal of the game.
Danis stopped all 21 shots he faced in the remaining 25 minutes, including seven in the overtime period to hold on for the tie. The Bears continue action with a pair of ECAC contests next weekend as they host Princeton and Yale at Meehan.
