ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and freshman Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) of the Brown men's hockey team were named the ECAC Player and Goaltender of the Week, respectively, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Lafferty posted four points over the weekend to help Brown to a sweep against Harvard and Dartmouth. He recorded his first career hat trick in the win over Harvard, scoring all three goals in the third period, and also added an assist for the four-point night. He led all ECAC players with two power-play goals and also went 61 percent on faceoff percentage.
Kania backstopped Brown to a weekend sweep as the only ECAC goalie to win two games and post a shutout. He led the conference with 70 saves, including a career high 41-save effort against Harvard, and earned his first career shutout in a 3-0 win over Dartmouth.
These are the second and third conference awards of the season for the Bears after Tommy Marchin was named the Player of the Week in early December.
Brown will visit Princeton in a best-of-three ECAC First Round matchup this weekend, starting on Friday night at 7 PM.
