Men’s Hockey Players Set for NHL Development Camps

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Eight current and former members of the Brown men's hockey program are expected to participate at several National Hockey League (NHL) Development Camps this July.

In addition to recent graduate Garnet Hathaway (Kennebunkport, Maine), the list of current Brown student-athletes expected to attend camp includes senior Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario), junior Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.), sophomores Zack Pryzbek (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) and Tyler Wood (Manchester, Mass.), and freshmen Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) and Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.).

Both drafted and free agent invitees are eligible to participate at the professional-level camps, which give prospects the experience of on-ice training, scrimmages and practices, along with seminars and meetings.

Lorito and Wood are both free agents and will attend camp with the New Jersey Devils. Pryzbek is currently at camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs, while fellow free agent Lappin will head to the Pittsburgh Penguins camp.

Incoming freshmen forwards Bird and Willman were both selected in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and will join camp with their respective clubs. Bird (fifth round, 137th overall) recently wrapped up camp with the Columbus Blue Jackets, while Willman (fifth round, 121st overall) will join camp with the Buffalo Sabres.

Hathaway, who completed a four-year career with the Bears this past winter, already attended camp with the Calgary Flames after playing with AHL affiliate Abbotsford following the season.

In addition, Sam Lafferty, who is expected to join the Bears for the 2015-16 season, was drafted by Pittsburgh (fourth round, 113th overall, 2014) and will attend camp with the Penguins next week.
