Men’s Hockey Skates to 3-3 Draw with St. Lawrence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Dennis Robertson (Fort St. John, BC) scored the equalizing goal at 18:38 of the second period as the Brown men's hockey team tied St. Lawrence, 3-3, in ECAC action Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown moves to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while St. Lawrence stands at 5-2-1 on the season and 0-0-2 in conference action.

Brown struck first with goal at 7:14 when Garnet Hathaway (Kennebunkport, Maine) slide a pass across the ice to the point, where senior Matt Wahl (Wellington, Fla.) was all alone and blasted a shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season to give the home side the lead, 1-0. Junior Matt Harlow (Bridgewater, Mass.) was also credited with an assist.

After St. Lawrence answered back less than two minutes later with a power-play goal by Gavin Bayreuther, the Bears took advantage of a Saints penalty with a power-play tally at 14:35. Freshman Zack Pryzbek (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) slid through the right circle and pushed the puck to Hathaway, who was angled in front of the net and scored from right in front for the 2-1 advantage.

Brown's lead did not last long, however, as Greg Carey scored a power-play goal at 16:48 to even the score, before brother Matt Carey netted a late tally with 48 seconds lefts in the period to give the visitors the 3-2 lead at first intermission. Brown held a 16-9 shot advantage during the opening stanza.

After neither team found the back of the net throughout most of the second period, Robertson netted a power-play goal with 1:22 remaining for his first tally of the season. Brown started with a 5-on-3 advantage, before Patrick Doherty charged out of the box to break up the play. Robertson scooped up the loose puck, and went back-and-forth to junior Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario), before hitting a shot from in front of the blue line to even the score, 3-3. The Bears outshot the Saints by a 15-7 margin in the second stanza.

After a scoreless third period, the two teams headed to overtime. Brown managed a pair of shots early in the extra frame, but both were saved by Saints goalie Matt Weninger to preserve the even score.

Freshman Tyler Steel (Vernon, BC) made 27 saves in net for the Bears, while Weninger registered 33 stops for the Saints.
