Men’s Hockey Receiving Votes in National Polls

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's ice hockey team received votes in the latest editions of both the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, released Monday afternoon.

Brown has not played a game yet this season but received seven votes in the latest USCHO.com Division I men's ice hockey poll, earning three more votes than in the first poll of the season. Additionally, the Bears received three votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine to appear on the list for the first time this season.

Brown went 16-14-6 last season for its first winning season since 2004-05 and advanced to the ECAC Tournament Championship game after upsetting top-seeded Quinnipiac in the semifinals. Brown returns 17 letterwinners from the 2012-13 team and welcome eight newcomers for the upcoming campaign.

Under the direction of head coach Brendan Whittet, who enters his fifth season at the helm, Brown will look to carry over last year's success into the 2013-14 season. Brown returns its top five scorers from last year's team, including junior Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ont.), who led the Bears in points (37) and ranked second in the ECAC in goals (22). Lorito earned All-ECAC Second Team honors and was recently named to the ECAC Hockey Media Association's 2013-14 preseason all-conference team.

The Bears open their 2013-14 campaign against defending national champion Yale on Friday, October 25, at the Liberty Hockey Invitational, to be played at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
