Bears Receive Votes in Both Weekly Polls

Having advanced to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals for the first time since 2010, the Brown men's hockey team (15-13-6) is currently among teams receiving votes in both national polls.

Brown earned 11 votes in this week's USCHO weekly poll and earned a single vote in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. The Bears enter Friday's semifinal game against #1/#2 Quinnipiac (26-6-5) following a three-game quarterfinal series at #16 Rensselaer. Brown defeated the Engineers, 3-1, in game one, dropped game two, 6-2, and then earned a 3-2 series-clinching win in game three on Sunday.

Brown is currently led by sophomore Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario), who has 35 points, on 20 goals and 15 assists. His 20 goals is the most by a Brown player since Damian Prescott '98 scored 25 in 1997-98, while his 35 points is most by a Brown player since Brent Robinson '04 had 38 points (15g, 23a) in 2002-03. Two other players have posted 20 points – junior Garnet Hathaway (Kennebunkport, ME) and freshman Mark Naclerio (Milford, CT), while freshman Nick Lappin (Geneva, IL) rounds out the top four scorers with 19 points.

Lorito led Brown against the Engineers with a goal in each game and an additional assist in game three. Lappin and senior Chris Zaires (Aberdeen, NJ) each contributed a goal and two assists over the three games, while Naclerio and junior Jake Goldberg (Langhorne, PA) had a goal and an assist in the series. Junior Dennis Robertson (Fort St. John, British Columbia), freshman Brandon Pfeil (West Vancouver, British Columbia) and Hathaway all had a pair of assists last weekend.

Senior Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) is eighth in the country with a 1.87 GAA and is third in the country with a .942 save percentage. He was instrumental in helping to lead the Bears past RPI, stopping 40 shots in Sunday's game three.
