NHL's Vancouver Canucks Sign Brown Forward Aaron Volpatti

Vancouver, BC - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed forward Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) to a multi-year deal. Volpatti, 24, joins the Canucks after recently completing his senior season as a tri-captain for the Bears’ hockey team. A Third-Team All-ECAC Hockey selection and Second Team All-Ivy honoree, Volpatti finished his final season with 32 points (17g, 15a) in 37 games. During Brown’s playoff run, Volpatti led the Bears with 9 points (6g, 3a) in eight games.

He led the Bears with 17 goals, six power play goals, and three game-winning goals, and was second on the team with two short-handed goals, while posting a team-high “+5” plus/minus rating. In addition, Volpatti led the team with 115 penalty minutes, setting a new school record for penalty minutes in a season. In a team-high 123 career games, Volpatti registered 62 points (32g, 30a) and 236 penalty minutes, while also serving as an Assistant Captain during the 2008-09 season.

Prior to joining the Bears, Volpatti played for the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. From the 2003-04 to 2005-06 seasons, the 6’2”, 215-point forward tallied 37 points (13g, 24a) and 279 penalty minutes in 137 games. He also appeared in the 2004 BCHL playoffs, recording one goal and five penalty minutes in five games. He was an assistant captain for the Vipers during the 2005-06 season.
