Volpatti Named Finalist for ECAC’s Best Defensive Forward Award

ALBANY, NY – Brown senior tri-captain Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC), who was recently named Third Team All-ECAC Hockey and Second Team All-Ivy, as been named a finalist for the League’s Best Defensive Forward Award presented by Gladiator Custom Mouthguards. Volpatti joins Cornell’s Joe Scali and St. Lawrence’s Travis Vermeulen as finalists for the award, which is voted on by the League's 12 head coaches.

A dominant player in all situations and leader on the ice, the senior captain has played in all 32 games this season and enters Brown’s Quarterfinal series at Yale ranked third on the team with 28 points (14g, 14a). All three of those numbers are new career-highs for the senior, passing his previous career-high for goals by eight, his previous career-high for assists by seven, and his previous career-high for points by 15. A top special teams player for the Bears, Volpatti also leads the team with five power play goals and two short-handed goals, in addition to leading the team with two game-winning goals. Volpatti is an aggressive player and currently leads the team with 31 penalties for 95 minutes, a mark that ranks third all-time at Brown. For his career, Volpatti has 58 points (29g, 29a), including 10 power play goals, three short-handed goals, and three game-winning goals, in 118 games, a team-high. In addition, his 216 penalty minutes (76 penalties) is a mark that ranks 7th all-time at Brown.

Volpatti and the rest of the team return to action this Friday when they begin a best-of-three Quarterfinal series at #6 Yale. The Bears finished in 11th place during the regular season and will face the top-seeded Bulldogs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if necessary. All games begin at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for the series are available through the Brown ticket office (401-863-2773) until Thursday at noon. Prices are $12.00 for adults and youth and $6.00 for Brown students (with an ID). Brown Athletics will sponsor a student fan bus for Friday’s game. For $20, students get roundtrip bus service and a ticket to the game. Call the Brown Ticket Office between 11:00 and 3:00 from now through Friday to take advantage of this offer.
