Newport, RI - Playing against one of the top collegiate fields in the nation that included four Top-20 teams, the Brown men's golf team place 16th at the prestigious Adams Cup of Newport, played at the par-72 Newport National Golf Club.
The Bears shot a three-round 943 on scores of 315, 319 and 319. Texas A&M captured the team title with a three-round 856, followed by Minnesota (869), Francis Marion (889), Southern Mississippi (891), Furman (893), Rhode Island (895), Hartford (901), George Washington (904), New Mexico State (905), St. Joseph's (912), Akron (914), Temple (920), Marshall (925), Connecticut (937), and Navy (937).
Bears' sophomore Michael Amato, who has been solid in the fall season, led the Bears and finished 57th overall with a three-day 233, shooting 78-78-77. Junior John Giannuzzi placed 57th overall at 234, carding scores of 76-78-80 at Newport National.
Senior co-captain Conor Malloy finished the tournament a 241, shooting 78-86-77 over three rounds. Senior co-captain Chris Hoffman had Brown's top score of the final round, shooting 76 to finish at 241 after posting first round scores of 83-82. Senior Joe Rued, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot 79 on the final day to finish with a three-round 249.
