Newport, Rhode Island - The Brown men's golf team finished play on day one at the prestigious Adams Cup of Newport, held at the par-72 Newport National Golf Club. The Bears are in 16th place overall with a team score of 634 (315, 319). Texas A&M leads the tournament with a two-round 566.
Junior John Giannuzzi continued his outstanding play in the fall, shooting 76-78--154 to lead the Brown team and place 45th individually. Giannuzzi has stepped up to be Brown's top scorer in each tournament in the fall. Sophomore Michael Amato has also made great strides in the fall, shooting 78-78--156 on the first day of play.
Senior co-captain Conor Malloy shot 78-86--164, while senior co-captain Chris Hoffman shot scores of 83-82--165. Also competing for the Bears was senior Joe Rued, who shot 89-81--170 in his first collegiate tournament.
The Adams Cup of Newport will conclude play on Tuesday with 18-holes.
