Haertel's 69 helps Bears to 5th Place Finish At New England Championship

Providence, Rhode Island - Sophomore Larry Haertel carded a three-under par 69 to help the Brown men's golf team to a fifth place finish with a 598 team score at the New England Division I Golf Championship at the Triggs Memorial Golf Club.

The tournament, played at the Donald Ross designed course in Providence, was won by Binghamton (580) followed by URI (587), Hartford (596), Yale (597), Brown (598), Boston College (603), Fairfield (604), Central Connecticut (606), Quinnipiac (607), Connecticut (607), Dartmouth (611), Harvard (611), Sacred Heart (612), Army (615), Providence (649), and Boston U. (655).

Haertel finished the tournament fifth overall with a two-day 145, as the Bears carded a second day team total of 296. Senior Danny Wallis shot 77, and came in 11th overall with a two-day 147.

Freshman Conor Malloy carded an even par 72 to place 16th overall at 148. Junior Lanny Benson shot 78 for a two-day 158, and senior Donny Mowlds also shot 78 to finish at 160 over two rounds.

The New England Championship was Brown's final tune-up prior to next weekend's Ivy League Championship at Crystal Springs, New Jersey, April 22-23.
