Bears Fifth After Day One of New England Championship

Providence, RI - Brown junior Chris Hoffman shot a one-over par 73 to help Brown to fifth place after day one of the New England Division I men's Golf Championship at the par-72 Triggs Golf Course.

Yale leads the tournament at 290, followed by Binghamton (292), Sacred Heart (294), Harvard (303), Brown (305), Dartmouth (306), Holy Cross (311), Fairfield (317), central Connecticut (319), Quinnipiac (324), Boston University (324), URI B (326) and Providence (332).

Hoffman's 73 came on nines of 37-36, and he stands 7th individually. Senior Larry Haertel, the defending New England individual champion, came in at 75, seven shots behind the first round leader, and 15th individually. Freshman Michael Amato enjoyed a solid round of 77 on nines of 40-37.

Sophomore John Giannuzzi came in at 80- for the Bears, followed by junior Conor Malloy, who shot 85.

The Bears will complete play on Sunday, April 13, with their first tee-off time at 9:22 a.m.
