Bears Improve On Final Day, Finish 11th at Macdonald Cup

New Haven, CT - Brown started slow, but finished strong, finishing 11th overall in the 14 team field at the Macdonald Cup, held at the par 70, 6789 yard Yale Golf Course. The Bears posted scores of 299-298-289—886.

Illinois, ranked fifth in the nation, dominated the field and took home the championship with a 54-hole 807, beating host Yale by 26 shots (832). St. Edward's placed third at 844, followed by Rhode Island (859), Dartmouth (863), UConn (871), Central Connecticut (877), Penn (877), Cornell (883), Brown (886), Fordham (886), Fairfield (887) and Yale II (911).

Brown's final day 289 was the seventh best team score of the day.

"We didn't get off to the great start we were hoping for, but I'm extremely pleased by the way we rebounded and bounced back with a final round of 289," said Brown head coach Mike Hughes. "Our goal coming into the final round was 290, and all five team members contributed towards that team goal. Whenever we drop a score of 75, it shows how dangerous a team we can be."

Senior Nelson Hargrove led the Bears and finished 21st individually with a 54-hole 215, improving each round with scores of 74-71-70.  Junior Justin Miller was close behind with a 54-hole 220 on rounds of 72-75-73.

Freshman Connor Lynch stepped up his game by shooting 75-73-74—222, while sophomore Jack Wilson shot a final round 72 after carding 78-79 to finish at 229 for the tournament.   Senior Peter Callas came in at 79-79-75—233 to round out the Brown scores.

The Bears are on the road again this coming weekend, October 12-13, at the Big Five Invitational, played at the Philmont Country Club.
