Bears Compete at Anteater Invitational

Laguna Niguel, Calif. – After a long winter hibernation, the Brown men's golf team opened its spring season at the Anteater Invitational, finishing 11th overall with a 54-hole 952.  The tournament, hosted by UC Irvine, was played at the El Niguel Country Club.

 

Long Beach State captured the team title with a 54-hole score of 891, edging CSU Fullerton by three shots (894).  Host UC Irvine placed third (895), followed by Colorado (906), Sacramento State (910), Loyola Marymount (911), UC Santa Barbara (917), Santa Clara (919), St. John's (928), CSU Northridge (930) and Brown (952).

 

Junior Peter Callas shot 87-74-74—235 to pace the Bears and place 40th individually. Freshman Jack Wilson turned in a solid performance, finishing 56th individually after rounds of 78-82-81—241.

 

Sophomore Justin Miller came in at 81-80-81—242, while senior Nelson Hargrove finished at 244 on rounds of 79-84-81. Senior captain JD Ardell also scored for the Bears, shooting a three-round 247 on rounds of 85-76-86.

 

Coach Mike Hughes' team will continue its spring trip in Arizona before returning to action again on April 6 at the Yale Spring Opener in New Haven, Connecticut.
