Bears 5th at Navy Invitational In Season Opener

Annapolis, Maryland -  Brown opened its 2012-2013 season will a strong showing at the Navy Invitational, held at the par-71, 6528 yard US Naval Academy Golf Course. Coach Mike Hughes' squad shot 291-295—586 to place 5th overall.

 

North Dakota State captured the team title by 15 shots with a 36-hole 565, followed by St. Bonaventure (580), Temple (584), St. Francis-Pa. (585), Brown (586), Navy (588), Delaware (589), Lafayette (596), St. Joseph's (598), LaSalle (610), Seton Hall (612), Navy White (614), McDaniel (622) and Siena (629).

 

Bears' sophomore Justin Miller picked up where he left off a year ago with a Top 10 finish at Navy, placing fifth overall with a two-over 143.  Miller posted a one-under par 70 in the opening round, the third lowest score of the day, and came back with 73 on the final day.

 

Freshman Jack Wilson was impressive in his collegiate debut, shooting 74-72—146 to finish 11th overall. Long-hitting junior Nelson Hargrove, who joined the Brown team in the middle of last season, placed 20th individually with a 36-hole on rounds of 72-75--147.

 

Junior Peter Callas was consistent throughout, shooting 75-75—150, while junior Kyohei Itamura finished at 151 on rounds of 75, 76.

 

Brown travels to Ithaca, New York on September 22-23 to play in the Big Red Invitational, hosted by Cornell.
