The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
The Brown men’s golf team shot the fourth best score of the day, carding 298, to finish seventh at the 54-hole Ivy League Golf Championship, held at the par-70, 6908 yard Caves Valley Golf Club. Junior Nelson Hargrove, one of the longest hitters in the field, shot 72 on the final day to come in at 222 and place 8th individually and earn second team All-Ivy honors.
After completion of the second round of the 54-hole Ivy League Men's Golf Championship, the Brown men’s golf team is eighth overall in the tournament played at the par-70, 6908 yard Caves Valley Golf Club. Both junior Nelson Hargrove and sophomore Justin Miller are 14th individually with 36-hole scores of 150. The Ivy League Championship will be completed with 18 holes on Sunday morning.
After one round of play Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship held at the par-70, 6908 yard Caves Valley Golf Club, Brown’s men’s golf team is eighth overall with a score of 311, just 10 shots out of third place. Second round action will be held on Saturday with 18 holes, with the tournament being completed with 18-holes on Sunday. Sophomore Justin Miller paced the Bears with a five-over 75, to finish 12th place individually.
In its final tune-up for next week’s Ivy League Championship, the Brown men’s golf team finished sixth with a two-day score of 624 at The Century Intercollegiate held at the par 71, 6,807-yard Century Club. Brown’s final round 305 was the third best score of the day.
Brown completed play at the Princeton Invitational Sunday afternoon, finishing seventh in the 14-team field that included all eight Ivy League schools. The Bears shot 297-297-300—894 in the 54-hole tournament played at the par-72 Springdale Country Club. Freshman Jack Wilson turned in a top 10 performance for the Bears, finishing 7th individually after scores of 73-70-74—217.
Playing under sunny skies with windy and cool temperatures, the Brown men's golf team returned to action at the Yale Spring Opener, finishing 8th in the 13-team field. Brown shot a 36-hole 613 (311-302) at the par-790, 6,700 yard Yale Golf Course. Senior captain JD Ardell paced the Bears with rounds of 77-73 - Â150.
After a long winter hibernation, the Brown men’s golf team opened its spring season at the Anteater Invitational, finishing 11th overall with a 54-hole 952. The tournament, hosted by UC Irvine, was played at the El Niguel Country Club.
Playing its final competition of the fall season, the Brown men’s golf team defeated both Harvard and Yale in head-to-head matches to place third at the Ivy League match play tournament played at the par 72, 7098 yard TPC at Jasna Polana. Host Princeton captured the championship with a 3-1-1 win over Dartmouth.
Brown’s men’s golf team had the upper hand on three other Ivy schools and placed 14th at the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational, played at the Philmont Country Club. The Bears shot 316-321—637 in the 19-team field.
Despite two days of inclement weather, the Brown men’s golf team competed at Yale Macdonald’s Cup Championship and placed 13th overall at the par 70, 6749 yard Yale Golf Course. Coach Mike Hughes’ team shot solid rounds of 292-299—591, with long hitting senior Nelson Hargrove leading the way with scores of 73-72.
Brown played at the Cornell Invitational for the first time ever and placed 11th overall at the rugged par-72, 6,890 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. The Bears shot 309-319—628 and were led by sophomore Justin Miller and senior captain JD Ardell, who each shot a 36-hole 157.
Brown opened its 2012 2013 season will a strong showing at the Navy Invitational, held at the par-71, 6528 yard US Naval Academy Golf Course. The Coach Mike Hughes’ squad shot 291-195—586 to place 5th overall. Bears’ sophomore Justin Miller picked up where he left off a year ago with a Top 10 finish at Navy, placing fifth overall with a two-over 143.
The Brown men’s golf team is gearing up for the 2012-2013 season, and all signs point to a promising start. This year’s team is fueled by a mixture of experience and fresh talent, and they are hoping that this winning combination will lead to success on the course.
The Brown Bears men's golf team was recognized with the President's Recognition Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for the third consecutive season for achieving the second highest team GPA in all of NCAA Division I golf. Brown also was named to the first team All-Academic team with its 3.62 GPA, the 5th straight year that the Bears have earned the award.
