Annapolis, MD - Freshman Justin Miller (Oakmont, PA) shot a sizzling two-under par 69 to lead the Brown men's golf team to a school record one under par 283 on the final day of competition at the Navy Fall Classic, played at the par 71, 6,600 yard Naval Academy Golf Course. Miller's blistering score helped the Bears to a fifth place finish with a two round 592 (309, 283) in the 12-team tournament.
The Bears' school record 283 shattered the previous school mark of 294 in the first round of the 2002 New England Championship. In addition, Brown's 283 was the lowest team score on the final day and tied with the lowest score of the tournament, tied with Navy's first round score.
Delaware took home the team title with a two-day 570, taking the fifth man's score to beat Lafayette (570). St. Francis – PA (583) was third, followed by Navy Gold (584), Brown (592), Navy Golf (592), George Mason (596), U.S. Naval Academy (598), LaSalle (602), St. Joseph's (612), George Washington (622), and McDaniel College (625).
Miller's 69 followed a first round 76 to finish at 145, 15th individually. He was tied with teammate Kyohei Itamura (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), a sophomore who carded a final round one-under par 70, following a first round 75.
Junior JD Ardell (Scottsdale, CA) also turned in a strong performance with a one-over par 73 to finish at 151 for the tournament. Sophomore Peter Callas (Moline, IL) also excelled on the final day of play, carding an even par 71 to finish at 153. Freshman Jon Greb (Weston, MA), who shot a first round 80, finished with a two-day 172.
