Cambridge, Mass. - Brown quarterback Joseph DiGiacomo, who led the Bears to an overtime victory over Penn, received the Boston Globe Gold Helmet Award Wednesday at the New England Football Writers luncheon.
DiGiacomo, the Division I-AA Gold Helmet winner, was named the Ivy League offensive player of the week for his role in Brown's 30-27 overtime victory over Penn. DiGiacomo completed 27 of 49 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 44 yards to Paul Raymond and 13 yards to Lonnie Hill to tie the game, 27-27, with 3:52 left to play. DiGiacomo orchestrated scoring drives of 93, 82 and 80 yards for the Bears' three touchdowns.
An All-Ivy selection a year ago, DiGiacomo ranks 9th nationally in passing yards with 240.4 yards per game, 10th nationally in total offense with 242.2 yards per game, and 13th nationally in pass completions (18.0). His 4,994 career passing yards and 359 career completions rank fourth in the Brown record book.
