Providence, RI - Two years removed from an Ivy League championship, 10th -year Brown head football head coach Phil Estes will welcome 103 players to the beginning of pre-season football camp with a refocus on both sides of the ball and a relentless pursuit to bring the Bears back to the top of the Ivy League standings. The Bears will undergo physical testing on Monday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m., with full practice beginning on Tuesday, August 22, featuring split squad practices at 8:30 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

Brown fans can get a preview of the 2007 squad on Friday, August 31, when the Bears host Bryant College at Brown Stadium in a pre-season scrimmage, beginning at 12:00 noon. Estes' squad will feature a strong experienced defense and a talented, but young offense. Junior quarterback Mike Dougherty will direct the Bears' offense and will have a bevy of a talented, fast and exciting wide receivers to throw to, including senior Paul Raymond, and sophomores Buddy Farnham and Bobby Sewall. Add talented 6-3 junior tight end Colin Cloherty to the mix, and Brown may decide to return to its wide-open passing offense of the late 1990's. Senior tailback Dereck Knight, a local Shea High School product, is Brown's top returning rusher with 213 yards on 49 carries, including a 96-yard rushing performance against Cornell. Junior tailback Jon Edwards saw action in three games last season, rushing for 23 yards on three carries. Senior All-Ivy guard Jimmy Tull, a two-year starter, will anchor the line. In addition, senior AJ Tracey, junior Matthew Adkins and junior Shane Kelley all saw starting roles throughout the season.

On the defensive side, Brown returns eight starters, including three All-Ivy players. At inside linebacker, senior Eric Brewer earned All-Ivy honors after making 82 total tackles, eighth best in the Ivy League. Hard-hitting junior linebacker Frank Nuzzo also returns after sitting out last season. Brown's defensive secondary is headed by senior All-Ivy safety Jose Yearwood, senior cornerback Matt Mullenax and junior cornerback Darrell Harrison. Three of four starters return to the Bears' front line, headlined by senior end Patrick Fisher, senior All-Ivy tackle Kai Brown and junior tackle Joseph McPhee.

Brown's kicking game may be the best in the nation with the return of three-time All-Ivy punter and All-New England kicker Steve Morgan, one of the top kickers in Ivy League football history.
