Dougherty & Knight Lead Brown Team Past White Team, 29-7, In Annual Spring Football Game

Providence, RI - In the 2006 Brown Spring Football Game the Brown team defeated the White team 29-7 on Saturday at Brown Stadium. Quarterback Michael Dougherty `09 threw for 269 yards and two touchdown passes while tailback Derrick Knight `08 rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The Brown defense limited the White team to just one reception in the second half as it outscored them 17-0.
Dougherty connected with tight end Matthew Krevis `07 on a 14 yard touchdown play to give the Brown team a 6-0 lead at the 8:25 mark of the first quarter. Kicker Robert Ranney's '08 point after attempt was blocked, however, allowing the White team to take a 7-6 lead three minutes later. Quarterback Joe DiGiacomo `07 completed a 40 yard pass to wide receiver Lonnie Hill `07 on the 80 yard drive.
With 1:12 left in the first quarter, Knight gave the Brown team a 13-7 lead with a ten yard-touchdown run. He rushed for 48 yards in the half as neither team was able to get points on the board in the second quarter.
In the third, Knight struck again, this time from seven yards out, capping off a five play, 80 yard drive. Ranney then gave Brown a 23-7 lead with a 27-yard field goal before Dougherty threw for one more touchdown, this time to wide receiver Thomas Balestracci `07 from 43 yards out.
Balestracci lead the Brown team with five catches for 118 yards while Krevis caught four passes for 75 yards. In addition to his 78 yards rushing, Knight made three catches for 26 yards while David Hearington `08 made two catches for 23 yards. Running back Jonathan Edwards `09 run for 69 yards as the Brown team out-ran the White team by 96 yards.
DiGiacomo passed for 116 yards on seven completions. Hill led the White team with four receptions for 76 yards while running back Akin Oyalowo `07 made two catches for 23 yards. He also ran for 38 yards on the ground. Brandon Markey `07 led the White team with 39 yards on the ground in eight attempts.
Defensively, Darrell Harrison `09 led the Brown team with 3.5 tackles and one interception. Joe Yanchunis `09 added 2.5 tackles and one sack. For the White team, Justin Gallagher `07 recorded a team-high six tackles. Matt Mullenax `08 add five in the loss.
