Providence, RI - In a ceremony held at the Rhode Island State House, the Brown football and men's soccer teams were honored by Governor Donald Carcieri, Brown Class of 1965, for their Ivy League Championships this past fall. Both teams received citations from the governor.
Brown football captains Jamie Gasparella, Nick Hartigan and James Frazier along with men's soccer team captains Matt Britner and Sean Gosseling, presented Carcieri with gifts. In addition, head men's soccer coach Mike Noonan presented the governor with a Brown jersey autographed by the 2005 Bears' team.
The Brown football team earned its first outright Ivy League Title with a 9-1 overall and 6-1 Ivy record in the fall. The men's soccer team earned a share of its 18th Ivy Title in school history and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual national champion Maryland, 1-0.
