Patrick Donnelly and Michael Yules Named 2013 Brown Football Captains

Providence, R.I. - Brown football coach Phil Estes has named the leadership for the 2013 Brown football team, with senior quarterback Patrick Donnelly (Longmeadow, MA) and senior defensive end Michael Yules (South Dartmouth, MA) being named team captains for the upcoming season.

"Patrick and Michael are standouts for the team on the field and are natural leaders," said Estes. "I can certainly understand why our team elected them captains by a wide margin to lead our squad into the future. Both are serious students of the game and leaders both on the field and in the classroom."

After missing a year due to injury, Donnelly started all 10 games and found his stride in the last several games of the 2012 season. He was named the Ivy League and New England Player of the Week for his effort against Dartmouth where he completed 20-of-32 passes for 233 yards, throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more. Donnelly, who came to Brown from Philips Exeter Academy and Longmeadow High School, threw for over 300 yards twice, with 336 yards against Harvard and 312 yards against Ivy Champion Penn.  He ranked third in the Ivy League in total offense (236.8 yards per game) and passed for 2,264 yards and 15 touchdowns, while completing 61-percent of his passes (219-of-357).

Yules had a breakout year for the Bears, turning into one of the top defensive players in the Ivy League, earning second team All-Ivy honors. He ranked 13th nationally with 13 tackles for a loss of 59 yards, and recorded 32 tackles overall.  Yules, who came to Brown from the Moses Brown School, also ranked fourth in the Ivy League with 6.5 quarterback sacks. An Academic All-Ivy selection, Yules was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after he led the Brown defense that held Georgetown to one yard of total offense in the second half and zero first downs after halftime. He had two quarterback sacks for a loss of 13 yards and added another tackle for a loss against the Hoyas.

Brown Football will hold its annual Brown-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 27 at Brown Stadium, starting at 12 noon.
