Providence, R.I. - Brown Athletics, in conjunction with the Brown Football Association, is sponsoring Military Appreciation Day at Brown's football game against Columbia on Saturday, November 17, at Brown Stadium, with kick-off at 12:30 p.m. All branches of the Armed Forces have been invited to participate, with Brown alumni football veterans from all branches serving as honorary captains.
"Brown Athletics is pleased to recognize members of the Armed Services and thank them for their service to our country," said Brown Athletic Director Jack Hayes. "This is a unique opportunity to gather veterans, active duty military and their families to celebrate the work they do on behalf of the American people."
Veterans of any branch of service, as well as their friends and families, are eligible for tickets priced at only $5, one-third of the normal price. Tickets can be purchased either in advance at Rhode Island National Guard Offices and the Pizzitola Sports Center, or at the Brown Stadium Ticket Office on game day.
Among the many special activities include an honor guard, a veteran National Anthem singer, and the coin flip by a returning vet from both Iraq and Afghanistan.
At halftime, all veterans will be invited onto the field to take part in a special recognition ceremony.
Brown Athletics is also inviting families of currently serving soldiers for lunch in the Brown Sports Foundation tent prior to the game, Located in Parking Lot A.
In addition, with the Brown men's ice hockey team hosting Army later Saturday evening, any veteran purchasing a ticket to the football game will receive complimentary admission to the hockey game at Meehan Auditorium that starts at 7 p.m. There will also be a ceremonial puck drop at the hockey game by a family whose father is currently deployed overseas.
